Hagar Home Based Care was established 2011 to provide temporary care and shelter to victims of family violence. Fisantekraal, an area on the outskirts of Durbanville in which this center is situated, is known for a high rate of crime and violence. This is mainly due to unemployment and overcrowded houses.

Victims of family violence are usually stripped of their sense of humanity, purpose, self-esteem and self-confidence. The aim of Hagar Home is to restore these women’s sense of self-worth by means of practical care and support i.e. provision of healthy meals, shelter, medical care, counselling, general assistance, skills development for future employment possibilities, thereby empowering them to fend for themselves.

Emphasis is placed on the development of skills in order for the women to be able to seek employment and/or to start entrepreneurial ventures in order to generate a sustainable income for themselves. Special attention is also given to the care and development of children while they are staying in the Home. The Home accommodates 4 women and 6 children. A Daycare service for children has recently been started , with 6 children currently in attendance.

No official funding is received from the Department of Social Development. The Home is solely responsible for generating its own funding to support families housed hereHagar Home Based Centre, for abused women and children. We are situated in the Northern Suburb of Cape Town Durbanville area Fisantekraal Community.
